本書はムー大陸の文明について、その文明が数万年前だかにあったことを完全に前提した上で書かれてあるもので、チャーチワードの荒唐無稽さに対して慎重に実証的に「ムー大陸」を検証していくタイプの本とまったく逆に位置する。20世紀半ばにメキシコで発掘された写本に書かれてあるという、ムー大陸で営まれていた生活・政治・制度・行事・服飾・貯蔵法の詳細が、それほど多くない分量で述べられる。チャーチワードと同様大陸の人種構成を峻別し、白色人種の優位を強調する。反乱者とその逮捕劇の記述にいたっては、写本の著者よりもアール自身の秩序愛が伺われ、全編にわたってギリシャを懐かしむようなヨーロッパ趣味の愉悦で充満している。１~３章は写本発掘までの経緯で、写本の解読上の文献学的・科学的手法ないし知見の記述が皆無なので、チャーチワードの荒唐無稽さから進歩がないことがわかる。以下の章で写本の内容が述べられるが、輸送手段や乗り物がすべて犬であったことはまだ無理がなくとも、写本著者の超能力や宗教大学の催眠術教育など、ぜひ一度は疑ってほしい事実がそのまま書かれてある。写本がすべて作り物であるのか、あるいは写本に書かれてあるのが何万年も前の文明のことなどではないのかはともかく、夢のある文化誌としてなら楽しめるかもしれない。「何年ものあいだ封印され続けてきた」「あまりに異質で衝撃的なムー文明解読書」というにはあまりに根拠薄弱であるし、「ムーロア」文明の記述が驚くほど奇抜である箇所はほとんどなく、祭典における風景や織物のつむぎ方など、むしろどんな文明にでも見られる風景が紙数の大部分を占める。
