マークライデンの絵は非常に細かいので、こんな小さいサイズの本ではとても表現しきれない。
代表的な傑作画も、元の画集の1/4程度に縮小されてしまった。
「こちらの方が大きく収録されている絵も数点あり」とのコメントがありますが、それがどの絵なのか、私は未だに見つけることが出来ません。
印刷も劣悪なので、さらに悪い。
かといって、筆者のコメントやエッセイが載っているわけでもない。
マークライデン日本初の待ちに待たれた画集なのに、散々延期になった挙句出たのがこれでは、残念という他ありません。画集としては、もはや伝説のアニマ・ムンディなどにも遠く及びません。
ライデンの絵そのものは文句なく☆☆☆☆☆ですが、画集としては☆1つもつける気はしません。
さらに、決して値段相応ではないと思います。明らかに高すぎです。ここまで粗悪な本なら、￥2000でも買う気がしません。
この本の発売によって元の画集の価格が落ち着くどころか、むしろ今以上に高騰してもおかしくないでしょう。

・・・とは言うものの、アニマムンディをはじめ作者の画集はどれも入手困難。
買えない方はこれで我慢しましょう。やむを得ませんね。

ありきたりな言い方ですが彼の独特な倫理観が好きです。
キュート狂気って感じでしょうか。

画集ではなく過去に描いた絵の中からいくつかを抜粋した作品集
ですので特に目新しさはないのですが記録として拾い見するには
側に置いておける丁度良い大きさ・ページ数だとおもいました。

ただ、原画データが巻末に記入されているので版の大きさが判り
にくいという面もあります。画集ではなく作品集としての位置付
けならばもう少し配慮が欲しいです。

とはいえ日本版第１号としての出来映えは大変気に入っています。

正直な話、こんな凄い方なのに、私は最近までマーク・ライデンの事を知りませんでした。
なのに何故、このイラスト集を購入したかというと、コメントを載せている野田凪さんという方が、マーク・ライデンのイラストや世界観で、服のブランドを
立ち上げたという事が、とあるファッション誌で載っていて、大変気になったからでした。
マーク・ライデンのイラストは、数枚の本当に小さいカットしか載っていませんでしたが、目がクギ付けになりました。

「な、、、何？この細かい描き込みは？この不思議な絵は何？この人形のように綺麗な少女は？」

即効調べて、比較的購入しやすい値段というのもあり、購入しましたが、買って大変良かったと思いました。
一言で言い表せませんが、キャラクター物、ホラー、モンスター、ゴシック、宗教画などの類が好きな私にはピッタリ嗜好が合った感じがしました。

熱心なファンの方だと色々不満もあるようですが、私のようにあまり　マーク・ライデンの事を知らなかった人には入門として購入をお勧めします。
ざっと55作品ほど掲載されていますので、高くは無いと私は思います。

印刷物でこの迫力ですから原画は、もっとすんごいんでしょうね〜。ため息が出ます。
