　本書は、ミスター円と呼ばれた著者のここ最近の雑誌掲載の記事をまとめたものである。

　著者は、グローバリズムは必然の流れであるとし、今のデフレ状況もグロ−バリズムからもたらされた以上、かなりの長期間続くとしている。世界経済の中心は間違いなく中国やインドのあるアジアに移っていく。そういう中で、われわれは、もっと「日本的なもの」を世界に向けて発信すべきだという。

　著者によれば、日本は平安時代の３５０年間と江戸時代の２５０年間平和であった。これだけの長期にわたって平和であった国は世界中を見渡してもほかにはない。まさに平和こそ日本的なものである。従ってこれからの日本は、この日本的平和主義を通じて、開かれた経済統合とともに世界経済の中心になりつつあるアジアへ広めていくことが課題であるとしている。

　一方、戦後日本の最大の問題は、教育に日本の歴史、精神、伝統を十分に教えてこなかったことにあるという。この点は、世界と渡り合ってきた実体験に基づくものだけに説得力はある。
　
　著者のいう「平和」と「教育」こそ、これからの日本が大事にしていくべき最大のポイントであることに異論はない。
