小１の息子が、学校で先生から聞いたといって教えてくれました。
１ヶ月前に祖母（私の母）を亡くした体験から、幼いながらも、”死”というものを
おぼろげながら意識したのかもしれません。
めがねをかけてゾウの姿が恰幅のいい祖母に似ているといい、ネズミは自分だと
いっては、何度も読み返していました。
私は私で、ゾウを送るのに精一杯のことをしたネズミを少しうらやましく思いながら、
母のことを思い出し、息子に思い出話をしました。神妙に聞く息子とちょっと素敵な
時間が過ごせました。

老いたぞうさんと、子供のねずみの話です。最後にはぞうさんがゾウの国に（死にに）行くのを、成長したねずみが助ける、という悲しい話です。

この話を読んで３回目に、もうすぐ４歳になる娘が「パパ、死んじゃイヤ」といいながら突然涙を流し出しました。突然「死」を何となく理解したようです。

　こどもの頃最初に目にしたのは確かに絵本でした。
母よんで聞かせてくれました。
大判は絵本にちょうどいい。
ねずみとぞうのものがたり。

いろいろなものが絵本には詰まっている。

ぜひ推薦したいです。
