　この「プラクティス編」は題名どおり、「それぞれのレベルの人がどんな練習をすれば最も効率よく上達していくのか」を説明してくれています。初心者、Ｃ級、Ｂ級以上と、レベル別に課題を示してくれているので、自分で上達の度合いを実感しながら練習を進めていくことができます。

　しかし、この本の中で特に素晴らしいのは、そういった練習法の解説より、むしろその前段かもしれません。

　どんな練習も正しい知識を身につけることから始まります。そこで、この本の中では具体的な練習法を示す前に、「ビリヤードの玉は実際にどんな動きをするのか」を詳しく解説してくれています。

　私はこの部分で、目から鱗がボロボロボロ~ッと落ち、「こんなに鱗があったのか」と驚きました。

　ビリヤードを覚えたての人がよく教わる、「玉の上を突くと押し玉、下を突くと引き玉だよ」「クッションに当たったときの玉の入射角と反射角は同じだ」「ポケットと的球、手玉が一直線になるように当ててやりさえすれば、的玉は絶対に入るから」といった知識は、全部「迷信」と言っていいくらい不正確なものだったというのは、初心者の私にとって衝撃でした。
　力加減と撞点に加え、スロウ、スキッドなどの様々な要素が組み合わされて玉は動く。こんなに複雑だからこそ、ビリヤードは面白い！この本を読むと、きっとそんな感想を持つはずです。

　スポーツとしてのビリヤードの奥深さを味わいたいなら、必読と言っていい一冊です。
