　まずなによりも，表紙に使われている深い森の写真が印象的だった。あの心地よく湿った森の空気，静寂こそ，きっとこの作品には相応しいのだろう。

　主人公の少年が引き起こした，けれども彼自身は少しも望んでいなかった１つの事件――というよりは現象――に，現実味は全くない。これは１つの，大人の為の寓話だろう。ぜひ，雨音だけが響く静かな夜に，１人きりで読んでもらいたい……そんな本だ。
　どうぞ，ご一読を。きっと忘れていた記憶を読み覚ましてくれる１冊になることだろう。

この本は、誰も知らない深く深い異世界の森の中で起こった出来事の様に、どこか現実味がなく曖昧な雰囲気のある不思議な本です。でも、ここに書かれているのは誰もが通り過ぎた「少年期に奪われてしまった何かとそれを奪ってしまったものたち」であり、いわば過去の残骸です。
誰が読んでも、初めて読む気がしない懐かしさを秘めた話に感じるのではない、でしょうか。私は読み進めていくうちになんとも言えない哀しいような寂しいような気持ちになりました。ちょうど小さい頃に大切にしていた宝箱を不意に見つけたけど、今では古ぼけたがらくたにしか思えない、そんな気持ちです。
カポーティの「遠い声、遠い部屋」と同じ空気感を持った作品。勿論両方とも名作です。
