批評家巌谷國士とオブジェ作家桑原弘明の初の共著がやっと出た！『スコープ少年の不思議な旅』は、桑原の創りだす魅了的なスコープ（ほんとうに小さい箱！）を覗いた小世界を、写真と文章でたどった本。本自体、小さくて美しく、まさに桑原作品そのものであるが、このすばらしい世界を夢想的に語る巌谷の筆力もまた、すごい！ノヴァーリス、鏡の国のアリス、上野紀子、アンドレ・ブルトンなどを引きながら、読者の心をノスタルジーで満たしてしまう。まさしく大人のための童話。文章、写真ともども、内容的にぎっしりつまっているのに、小さく美しいため、大切なひとへの贈り物に最適。

スコープとは、もともと顕微鏡や望遠鏡のような、
世界を拡大してみる器械のことだという。
しかしアーティスト桑原弘明の造るスコープは
この世界を拡大してみるものではない。

掌に乗る位の小さな箱、そこから細い筒が出ていて
先端のレンズを覗くと、そこにオブジェがある。
それが桑原弘明の世界だ。

僕たちは巌谷国士の文章に導かれながら
いつか見たノスタルジアの世界を旅するように
極小のオブジェが写された
素敵なページを次々とめくるようになる。
それはそう、不思議な旅以外ナニモノでもない。

読み終えた後、誰もがこのスコープが欲しくなるだろう。
自分の掌に世界をおさめるために。

この絵本はスコープをのぞくように、ページをめくります。
巖谷さんの言葉たち、そして桑原さんのスコープがスコープ少年を旅立たせる。
わくわくして覗くと、そこはアリスの世界や、庭園がひろがっている。
黒く小さなこの絵本に、どれだけの世界がひろがっているか！
小さくて、なによりも広い。この時期クリスマスプレゼントにされたら、もうたまらない絵本！！
