本書は、著者が本願寺新報紙上に平成十三年二月から七十回にわたって連載したもので、題名が示す通り、「正信偈」の内容をわかりやすく親しみのある言葉で解説されている。「正信偈」は、『教行信証』「行巻」の末尾に置かれた六十行百二十句の短い偈文で、浄土真宗の僧侶・門信徒にとっては、朝夕の勤行に念仏・和讃を加えてつとめる最も身近な勤行聖典であり、また浄土真宗の教義の要とその伝持とが簡潔に述べられた大切な聖教である。本書は、この「正信偈」の偈文一つひとつの意味を、いわゆる専門用語をできるだけ避け、身近な出来事を例話とし、巧みな比喩を駆使して、噛み砕くようにわかりやすく語っている。
