40歳過ぎて絵本を読んで涙を流すことになるとは。。。
小学生の時に『フランダースの犬』を読み、号泣したことを思い出した。

世間一般の人のホームレスに対する見方は「汚い」とか「負け犬」とかで、
同じ人間として思いやりの眼差しで見ているだろうか？
自分自身もホームレスは遠い存在であった。しかし、この絵本を読み、ホームレス
に対する自分の見方を改め、「困った人を助ける」という当り前の思いやりを
大切にしなければならないと痛感した。

この絵本に登場するホームレスも飼い主のいない犬も、命の重さは変わりないはずなのに、
なぜホームレス襲撃事件や動物虐待事件は後を絶たないのであろう。
子供達には、この絵本や『フランダースの犬』を読んで、思いやりのある
優しい人間になって欲しいと思う。

大人にもこの絵本は十分感動的だし、この絵本を推薦していた
生田 武志 (著)『ルポ最底辺―不安定就労と野宿』 (ちくま新書 673)を
を合わせて読んで、ホームレスや野宿者に対する理解を深めて欲しいと思う。

本の帯を見たとき、いわゆる「暴力反対！」の教育本かと思いましたが、挿絵を描いているのが大好きな「はせがわいさお」だったので購入しました。一気に読んでしまいましたが、登場する犬やおじさん、おばさんは本当にどこにでもいるようなのに、描かれている内容はかなり重たい内容なのです。でも、読み終わった後の、なぜかとっても暖かい気持ちは、きっとこの挿絵のおかげなのだと思いました。特に、ダンが天へ上っていくシーンは、そのままお部屋に飾っておきたいような素敵な絵です。きっとこのまま表紙につながって、大好きなおじさんに会いに行くのだろうな、と思いました。
