ゾーヴァの日本出版で現在唯一の画集のようですが、絵はもちろんとても素敵なのですが、（部分）という作品が多くて、画家が全体のバランスを考えて描いたものが勝手にトリミングされてしまうというのは、画家本人はどんな気持ちなんだろう？と思いました。
原書がそうなんだと思いますが、表紙になっている箱船の絵は大作っぽいのでしょうがないとしても、他の作品はできたら全部描いた絵全体を載せる感じで本を作ってほしかったです。

挿し絵のSOWAとはまたひと味違う、SOWAの世界観が全面に出たすばらしい画集だと思います。一枚一枚の画に空気色があり、ストーリーを連想させます。視覚的な満足だけでなく想像力も刺激される、色んな意味で人を豊かにしてくれる一冊です。

『ちいさなちいさな王様』『エスターハージー王子の冒険』『キリンと暮らすクジラと眠る』などの本の表紙や挿し絵を描いているゾーヴァの画集。

本の中でのゾーヴァの絵の占める役割は大きい。「挿し絵」ではなく、お話が添え物のように感じられる。ファンタジックなお話や設定も、不思議と現実を垣間見させる。和むタイプの絵ではなく、シュールな、大人の観賞にたえる絵本として眺めると楽しいかも。
