シリーズ第四弾。

「メッタ斬り」を初めて読んだときに感じたインパクト、それは文学賞を切るという題材そのものや、大森・豊崎両氏（特に豊崎氏）の豪快な言いっぷりに対して感じたのだが、さすがにそれも第四弾になるとかなり飽きがきていた。だけど、シリーズものは余程のことがなければ最後まで付き合う性格なのでとりあえず購入。

読み終わった結果は、第五弾が出ても買わないかもしれないなぁ、というものだった。

だが、それは内容がマンネリだからという理由だけではない。マンネリだからといって飽きることなく読むことのできるシリーズものはいくらでもある。

いくら“文学賞を斬る”という内容であっても、このシリーズはあくまでこの二人が読んだ小説を、芥川賞や直木賞の選考委員達がどう読んだのかということを語って（茶化して）いるのだから、突き詰めれば、両氏の“書を評する”という“力（書評をするという行為の実力＝芸）”が試されていることになっているはずである。

繰り返し読むことのできる書評、あるいは発表される著作を継続して購入しようとさせる気にさせる書評家というのは、“けなしている本ですら読んでみたい”と具合に書評そのものが“芸の域”達していなければならないはずだが、残念ながら大森・豊崎の両氏には読者にそれを芸として読ませるまでの力はないと思う。

マンネリ化してるけど、でもやっぱり面白い。
豊崎氏の好きな小説猛烈プッシュ嫌いな小説ボロクソ貶す態度は個人的にとても好きです。
付録として付いている各賞受賞作品の書評が毎度ながら充実しており、本を買う際にとても参考になるし、新人チェック（笑）も出来ます。

これは本書巻末の文学賞の値うちで作品を評するのに出てくる表現です。ちなみに全作品中、最高評価の90点と89点がつけられた作品に対してそう形容されました。採点基準には『世界文学の水準で詠み得る作品』とあります。客観的に見て、いささか主観的な評者の過剰な思い入れがうかがえることは、ひとまず脇に置くとしましても、仮にそういった作品をありえないほどという軽薄じみた言葉で表現するのは、不適切に思えます。それほどの高い評価を与えるのであれば、それに見合う語彙で作品を採点する責任が評者には求められるべきではないでしょうか。本書全体を見渡しましても、そうした投げやりで言いっ放しの言葉遣いが多く見受けられるように思えました。
