本書のタイトルから皆さんが想像するように、気軽に読み流すタイプの本ではありません。不幸にも担当教員の英語力が無く、オーラルコミュニケーションとお題目だけを連呼するような、いい加減な授業しか受ける機会しかなかった学習者にとって、磐石な英語力をつける格好の教材です。

「古谷メッソド」と言っても何か魔法のような方法論があるわけではなく、文法的に構造を正確に捉え、書かれている一語一語の存在意義までを問い直しながら、内容理解まで到達することを目的としているものです。英語の本当の読解力は、一見遠回りのように見えるこのようなやり方しか、道はないと思われます。

本書の短所として、活字が大きく、太すぎることと、使用されえている紙が若干厚いため、全体として重たい本となっています。その結果として気軽に鞄に入れて持ち運ぶには適していないような感じです。でも、本書は自宅で、じっくり机の前で辞書と格闘しながら使用するのが一番いいと思われますので、大きな減点はしないことにします。
