ターシャのことを知ったのは、ＮＨＫのスペシャル番組でした。９０歳を過ぎても、前に進み続けようとする気合いに圧倒され、庭の美しさに憧れました・・。ターシャの原点を知りたいと思い読みました。子ども頃からの環境や生活が、反映されているということ、また自分の好きなものを大事にして生きているのだということがわかりました。私も３人の子どもの母親です。ターシャは、家事の一切を電化製品など使わずこなしていたのです。今の私たちの生活はどうでしょう。掃除、洗濯、食事の準備・かたづけ。家電製品に支えられています。
なのに、どこか豊かではない気がしてきます。主婦業に疲れた時、読み直してみます。ターシャの心の豊かさに触れると、また力がわいてきます。

　ターシャ＝テューダーの娘のベサニーが、古い母親の写真も取り込んで、母親の生き方を語っている。
　これが、ターシャ＝テューダーという「人生の達人」の娘の話でなければ、単なる母親の自慢話に終わってしまいそうな中身であるが、ターシャの娘となれば、それは、又、別の話になる。身近にいて、現在の「ブーム」に乗ってしまったものの、静かに暮らしてきた母親の生き様を抑揚の効いた筆致で書き上げている。
　ここには、ターシャの生き方の原典とともに、母と娘の強い絆が描き出されている。
　コーギーを飼い、芝生の手入れが好きな小生に妻がこの人物を紹介してくれなければ、多分、小生は一生この人にめぐり合わなかったかもしれないが、その妻は、娘たちと、このような絆をきずいているのだろうか？
　男には理解できないうらやましい関係である。
