実際に管理者が管理するばあいに見る本ではなくフィルタリングの必要性がわからない管理職が読むための本に見えた
実用的な話ではなく理論的な話ばかりで、残念ながら求めてる本ではなかった。理論を知りたいネットワーク初心者にはいいんじゃないかと

本書では約 300 ページかけてパケット・フィルタリングについて解説している．パケット・フィルタリングとはどういうものか，なにをフィルタするのか，どういう効果があるか，などの点について，ていねいに解説している．

しかし，そもそもパケット・フィルタリングの目的に関する記述が希薄である．パケット・フィルタは QoS のためにもつかうが，読んでいくと，QoS 保証につかうつもりはないらしいことがわかってくる．目的を明確にしないままでは，読者はどこにつれていかれるのか，わからない．ネットワークやサーバをインターネット上の脅威からどうやって保護すればよいのか，その実践的な方法に関しては最後までわからないままである．どういう読者を想定しているのか，わからない．すくなくとも実践的には価値のない本である．
