福本さんの超一級麻雀マンガ、その元祖！それがこの"天"です。
別冊で主役になったアカギもこの作品で登場しています。
中盤から全国の猛者たちが西と東に分かれて勢力争いをするんですが、
主人公の天側に付く雀士が一人ずつ個性的に描かれる前半も面白い。
ラストは福本マンガで一番愛されているキャラ、アカギの重要なエピソードです。
とにかく面白いんですが、この第1巻はどうか大目にみてほしい(笑)
おちゃらけムードで、作品の方向性が定まっていず、尚且つ絵が…
福本さんゴメンナサイとっても下手です！
（本人も｢やっちまった！｣ときっと後悔してるはず）
1巻だけでみるとまちがいなく駄作ですが、どうか2巻、3巻と読んで
ください。福本さんの麻雀マンガの才能が爆発します！
麻雀好きなら読まないのは絶対もったいないですから！

麻雀劇画の最高峰にして福本伸行の代表作。
もうこれは絶対に読むべきだ。
麻雀が分からない人は入門書と同時に購入されたし。

作品としては、１~３巻が人情話編、４~１５巻が東西戦編、
１６~１８巻が通夜編となっている（作品中で明確に分けられてる
わけではないけど）。どれも十二分に面白く、名台詞も多い。

なお１巻の前半だけ話のノリがまるで違うので要注意。
カイジみたいな漫画を期待している人が面食らうことになるが、
ここで読むのをやめてはいけない。
この世で最も愚かな行いの一つであると断言できる。

どことなく少年漫画風の麻雀漫画。熱いバトル。キャラが魅力的。台詞回しがいちいちかっこいい。と、ツボを押さえてると思います。
巻数が多い上に内容が濃いので一気読みには向いてないかも。個人的には編ごとにじっくり読むのが好きです。
天才達に錐揉みされながら成長していく秀才ひろゆきに注目してやって下さい。
