日下 公人
1930年兵庫県生まれ。55年東京大学経済学部卒業後、日本長期信用銀行入行。経済企画庁総合開発局、ウィルソン大統領記念研究所客員研究員などを経て、93年~2003年5月までソフト化経済センター理事長、97年~2006年3月まで東京財団(旧国際研究奨学財団)会長を務める。現在、多摩大学名誉教授、三谷産業(株)監査役、社会貢献支援財団会長

竹村 健一
1930年大阪府生まれ。53年京都大学文学部卒業。第1回フルブライト留学生としてエール大学、シラキュース大学大学院に学ぶ。55年英文毎日記者となる。63年退社後、1年間山陽特殊製鋼調査部長を務める。英文毎日時代から、テレビ・ラジオ出演、執筆・講演を通じて幅広い評論活動を行う

渡部 昇一
1930年山形県生まれ。55年上智大学大学院西洋文化研究科修士課程卒業、同年ドイツ・ミュンスター大学留学。58年Dr.Phil.h.c.(哲学博士)、英国オックスフォード大学留学。94年Dr.Phil.h.c.(名誉哲学博士)を受ける。60年上智大学文学部英文科講師、助教授を経て教授となる。2001年上智大学名誉教授に就任(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

３人の近著の紹介、その主旨や内容をめぐる議論も興味を引かれます。
鼎談本の中には、明らかに後で書き加えたような話がわざとらしく語られる場面が見られますが、この本では自然な会話の流れが感じられるので、ラジオを聴く感覚で読めるのも特長でしょう。
博識の３人が、互いに「聞いたことのない話」を紹介し合う場面は見所の一つです。
長い付き合いの３人が、これまで「キリスト教」という共通点があったことを話したことがなかったというのも意外なことでした。
