デュ・プレのファンの方はご存知だろうが、この天才チェリストを描いた本は2冊ある。1冊が本書で映画の原作となったもの。もう1冊がキャロル・イーストンの書いた本である。当初キャロル・イーストンがデュ・プレの伝記を書かして欲しいとデュ・プレ亡き後遺族に頼みに行き後者を発刊したが、その内容に納得がいかなかった遺族がデュ・プレの生々しいほどに全てを出したのが本書だ。

天才は生きる事は上手くなかった。素顔は読めば読むほど哀しい。

こういう女性としての葛藤を内包した中で、あの演奏を残したのだなぁと感じるものがある。

ただデュ・プレの演奏を聴いただけでは彼女を語るに値しないと実感する作品。

本当のジャクリーヌ　デュ　プレを見た人には絶対読んで欲しい一冊。

”ジャクリーヌ　デュ　プレ”という希有のチェリストとしての姿ではなく人間ジャクリーヌの姿を家族としてみてきた姉と弟が演奏家ではない一人の人間としてのジャクリーヌの姿を知ってほしいと書いた本です。クラシック音楽を元々好きでデュ　プレを知っていた曲を聴いていた人には複雑な気持ちになってしまう映画の原作本なのですが・・。

不世出の天才チェリスト ジャクリーヌ・デュ・プレをその姉と弟が描いた作品。
幼い頃からチェリストとして活躍し、病気のため２８才で引退。４２才で亡くなった。

天才を姉妹に持つ大変さが伝わってくる。
ちょっと才能があっても天才の前にはかすんでしまう。
家族の中心は天才になる。
すべてが天才のためになってしまう。

家族はそれに嫉妬するのではなく率先して巻き込まれることになる。
それが神から選ばれた天才と言うもの。
しかし、私が読みたかったのは彼女の病気についてだ。
病名は多発性硬化症。
彼女は私の病気の先輩だ。
だんだんと病気が進行し体の自由が利かなくなっていく。
楽器が弾けなくなっていく。
まわりには才能の枯渇と陰口を言われる。

症状が進行する中、病名がわかるまでの不安。
追い打ちをかけるような、精神的なものとの誤診。
診断が出てからも、引退してから死ぬまでの１４年間はどんな思いだったか。
姉弟ではなく、本人に聞かないと分からない。
