刀剣、短剣、長柄、打撃、射出、投擲、特殊、兵器の８種類に分類された武器が「長さ」「重さ」「年代」「地域」の４つのデータだけでなくイラストと詳しい解説付きで紹介されています。

中には変わった武器もあってその使い方などもちゃんと解説されているので、こんな武器があったのかと感心しました。"武器"そのものに興味がなくてもけっこうおもしろかったです。

本当にたくさん載ってるので、パラパラっとページをめくって見てるだけでも面白いです。

事典という事であんまり詳しい事までは書いてないですが、イラストの資料として買ってみた私にはこれで十分です。

イラストも一点一点入ってるので分かりやすいです。
この絵を元に新しい武器を想像するのも難しくはないと思います。

西洋に限らず、様々な地域（日本や中国は当然として）の
様々な武器が登場する本です。
ただし、古代から近世までで、火薬を使った兵器は
ごく初期のものが、ひとくくりになって登場するだけです。
（おそらく、17世紀くらいまでの武器かと思います）
そのため、もっと近代の武器の資料を欲しいと思う方には
マール社の『武器』の方が良いと思います。
ただし、個々のアイテムの説明文は、上記の本では
語られていませんので、合わせて手元に置くと良いかもしれません。
