CSS と JavaScript の入門書です。「タグ入門ガイド いますぐHTMLが使える本」の姉妹書ですが、とくに内容上の連携があるわけではなく、それぞれ単独で読んでまったく差し支えありません。

本書は CSS と JavaScript について、簡明に説き起こした解説書です。到達レベルは高くありませんが、とくに JavaScript の入門記事は非常によくできており、初心者がずるずると脱落していく箇所をしっかりフォローしています。とはいえ DOM はまったく扱いませんし、CSS の解説も含め Web 標準の志向が非常に薄いことには注意が必要かもしれません。

CSS の解説の終盤では、Web 標準の見地からは「やってはいけない」とされるテクニックが注釈無しで紹介されます。これでは CSS を使う価値がない、むしろ有害となる作例であり、非常に気になります。JavaScript の使われ方も同様で、「本当に有意義な使い方」を考えさせるような構成にはなっていません。本書の解説は、「できる」し「面白そう」だから「やってみよう」という方針なのです。

その意味で、私は本書を高く評価できません。しかし初心者には嬉しい一冊でしょう。とくに JavaScript については、最初は「楽しい」ことに挑戦する他ないだろうとも思うのです。JavaScript の解説が気に入ったので、甘く点をつけました。
