今まで日本人が抱いていた河童のイメージを、ちがった視点から分析した良書であると思います。
もちろん、河童の事象で有名なところは、きちんと押さえてあるのですが、それ以上に、著者自身が考察した河童の起源のくだりが、なかなか面白いです。

ネタばれになりそうなので、河童とは実は~~だった、とはここでは書かないですが、著者の推理の結末は……。読んでからのお楽しみです。
ただ、もっと装丁がハデな本だったらとも思うのですが……。
