ITILはVersionによってちがう。細かくはVersion2の方が良かったという人もいるのだけれど、とりあえず今からITILの本を買う方は、本の書きぶりがどうのこうのという以前に、特に他に理由が無い限りは Version3の内容を盛り込んだものを選ぶのが自然であろう。

本書は、一見整然としているが、ITの本としては日本語もよくまとまっていて、ちゃんと読むと普通にわかりやすい。図や表もそれだけではわかりにくいが、本文とあわせながら見ると良く理解できるように書かれている。ITILはまったく初めて、という方より、多少何なのかはわかる、という人により向いているかもしれない。

尚、Version 3 のOverviewについては An Introductory Overview of ITIL V3 というPDFファイルに書かれた仕様がInternet上のWebからPDF形式でダウンロードできる。ただ、英語だし、いきなりだと敷居は高いと思う方もいるだろうから、その橋渡しあるいは補助的な意味でもこういう本は重要である。

2007年に再改定されたITIL-Version3の内容に沿ってITサービスマネジメントの
流れを分かりやすく説明しています。
Version2からVersion3に改定された理由が詳しく書いてあり、
ITILの本質がよく理解できます。
そもそもITILとは単なるシステム運用・管理のフレームワークでなく、
より広範なITサービスマネジメントのフレームワークであり、
ビジネスとITの両方の視点でITサービスのライフサイクルを管理するのに
有用なものという気づきがありました。
改定されたVersion3では、ITサービスのライフサイクルを以下のように定義しています。
・サービスストラテジ
・サービスデザイン
・サービストランジション
・サービスオペレーション
・継続的なサービス改善
サービスストラテジなどは経営よりの話になってきますが、
一システム担当者が読んでも視野を広げるのに役立つと思います。

現時点で、唯一のITIL v3本という価値はある。

今回はITIL v3 Foundationを受験するに当たって、この本を手に取った。

内容的にはなんとなく網羅されているが、受験対策テキストとしては、範囲や内容の深度が試験のそれと、異なっているからちょっときつい。

あと、、、誤字脱字がちょっと多いなぁ。有名なコンサル会社の著作としては、記述レベルが甘い！

発刊が早かったためか、訳語が日本語版ITILv3に合っていません。試験は日本語版ITILv3を基準に問題作成されるので、コレで試験勉強するのは不向きです。
