デザイナーというわけでもないけれど、ちょっと個性的な文字をパソコンで
使いたい---そう考えていたときにこの本と出会いました。
フォントの作り方に関しては「なるほど」と納得しつつも、自分自身がツール
を持っていないので斜めに読み、その後に付属している多様で個性的なフォント
を目当てに購入しました。

イロイロなアルファベット、仮名文字があり、眺めているだけでも飽きが来ません。
手紙に使ってやろうか、プレゼンにちょっと色を添るのに使えるかも…と考えるだけでも楽しくなります。

ちなみに、私の一番オキニイリは「梵字」のフォントです。
もっとも、お寺で控えて来た字面と一致する文字を探して自己満足するだけですが。

フォントの作り方については大変参考になりました。フォントグラファーのソフトには解説書がなく、PDFファイルがついていましたが、500ページもプリントして、結局内容がよくわからなかったので大変助かりました。

ただし
おそろしく文章がヘタで誤字脱字が多いです。作家ではないのかも知れませんが、読みにくい解説書はどうでしょう？DTPも満足でない作り、特にカーニングを解説している本でこれほど文字組がデタラメなのも驚きです。小さくて読めない資料画像も残念でした。

フォント作成ソフト「Fontographer」のリファレンス本。
同梱ディスクにはフリーで使えるフォントが51書体(33種)、Win/47書体(29種)
「Fontographer for Mac 4.1J体験版」、フォント一覧ソフトが収録されています。

本文は紫と黒の2色刷り構成で、他ソフトウェア「Photoshop」、「Illustrator」を
使用した場合での作成方法、またソフトにおけるバグの対処など、かなり具体的に
解説されており、同梱ディスクから.fogファイルも展開出来るので、構造を知る事
ができて親切な内容。

圧倒的にクリエイター仕様の解説本ですが、今や貴重な「フォントグラファー」の
リファレンス本なので一冊は押さえておきたい本ではあります。
