　本書は、著者が宮司をつとめる神社の信徒向けの内容をもつ本（体験談などもある）ですが、同時に精神世界に関心のある人とっても普遍性をもつ、なかなかおもしろい本です。

　題名は『神々〜』ですが、結局神々への信仰の限界、御利益信仰の限界などについても書かれています。神々ではなく、普遍的な神というものについて説くのが主眼だと思われます。

「自分の利益のために信仰するというのは、ちょうど、飛行機の乗客と同じことで、自分では何の努力もしないで、パイロットまかせで目的地に行こうとするようなものです。だから、そういう信仰では、乗ったときと目的地で降りたときとを比べても、本人の状態には全然変わりがない。信仰によって霊的に成長するということがないわけです。そういう場合は、パイロットに当たる神々が、もしよからぬ霊であれば、とんでもないところへ連れてゆかれるかもしれない・・・・・・ところが、自分で本当に努力して本当に成長してゆこうという人たちは、（飛行機が空中分解して）バラバラになってもそれがそれが霊的に成長するジャンプ台になるわけです・・・・」

　とあります。

　すべての宗教について普遍的な、ひな型のような、心の在り方を述べている本にも見えます。
