嘘っぽいことがこれほど削ってある文章を、そんなに多くの人が受け入れられるとは思えない。痛みを伴うようなユーモアを、そんなに多くの人が感覚できるとは思えない。良い世界を希望することに興味がある人が、実際、そんなに多いとは思えない。

この本には、こう書かれている。「物事は、あるべきようには、なってはいない」。「世界はめちゃくちゃ、人間はどうしようもない。でも、昔からずっとこんな感じ」。

そんなことを書きながら、基本的には世界を愛するという態度をわかる人が、もし多いのなら、世間がこんなはずはない。「愛は、喜びと同じくらい、痛みを伴う」ということを当然のこととして、平然としている人に、簡単に会えるなら、みんなもっと元気に生きていられるはずだ。

回答者に会ってみたくなりました。でも・・・。古本屋には絶対に回らない本だと思います。

5.0 out of 5 stars メタファーとしてのアウトサイド, 2008/2/26
アウトサイダーボイスというサイトでの人生相談だったため、相談内容も回答も奇抜でユニークな印象が強烈ですが、チップさんの言われていることは、実はとても真っ直ぐで、親や先生たちも忘れてしまっているくらい、極めて真っ当な意見が数多く見受けられます。
こうしたものの清浄さに改めて気づかされてしまうのは、いろんな理由で本質的かつ純粋な事物の多くが、アウトサイドへと追いやられているからなのかも知れません。
いま感じている現実への違和感。相談者やチップさんのアウトサイダーな声に耳を傾けることは、内なる自分の声に耳を澄ませることになぜか似ています。
