　画家は切手で旅をし、詩人は葉書で旅をする。

　架空の切手を描きつづけた夭折の画家ドナルド・エヴァンズへのオマージュとして、彼に対する葉書の形で綴られた、不思議な紀行録。奇妙な偶然に導かれ、画家の人生と詩人の足跡が、幻影のように交差する。

　ぜひ平出隆の詩集『胡桃の戦意のために』『家の緑閃光』と併せて読んでいただきたい。旅の始まりは『胡桃の戦意のために』と、ラストシーンの感動は『家の緑閃光』と、それぞれリンクしている。

　途中に顔を出す神秘的な猫ベルタ、実際には使えないパフィン鳥の切手を発行しているランディ島。印象深いシーンには事欠かない。

平出隆がドナルド･エヴァンズの切手に出会えたように、人間は何かに惹かれてその何かを発見する。ドナルド･エヴァンズにとってそれは切手であり、平出隆にとってはドナルド･エヴァンズの作品だったのだろう。そして私達にとっては本著ということになるのだろうか。

詩人の言葉は美しいがそれは飾られた美しさではない。言葉として発せられる前の、人の考えの中にある言葉の鋭さに美しさを感じる。

また装丁も丁寧に作られており、手に持つとしっかりと作られた本だと感じることができる。
