4.0 out of 5 stars 現実世界から解離する快感を得たい人に, 2006/7/4

小川洋子さんの既刊を全て読みました。

『博士の愛した数式』だけが、この作家には珍しく、
誰にでも受け入れやすい内容だったのだ…と思わされました。
その他の作品は、どこか現実世界から離れた幻想的な設定が多く、
いかにも芥川賞と泉鏡花文学賞を取った作家さんという印象を受けました。

美しい言葉を選ぶセンス、文章のテクニックは、流石です。
しかし読後は、船酔いをしたような気分になり、気が滅入りました。
「純文学」とは、「分かる人にしか分からないものだ」と思ったりしました。

でも、もし私が、少女の頃のあの鋭敏な感性を、今でも持ち続けていたら、
酔いしれるような感動を得られただろうにと思います。

　主人公の少女は海水浴場のさびれたホテルで家族と働いている。彼女は夢見る年頃に、死にゆく祖父の世話やホテルの雑用をしながらひっそりと暮らしている。ひどく暑い夏で、海がきらきらしている隣で、少女は人生を取るに足らないものだと思っている。

　そんな少女が、老人と特殊な関係を築く。老人は彼女の非日常であり、彼女はその非日常の穴に落ちてしまう。しかし、最後には現実的な現実が待っている。少女はその現実を受け入れる。

　ひとりの少女の、目に映らないほどの些細な夢や失望が克明に書かれている。エロティックな描写も品があり、そこで勝負する作家たちと一線を画している。

男と女の「どうしようもなさ」を自意識の外側から綴る長い長い一篇の詩。
自意識に閉じこもる男と自意識の希薄な女の出会い。
その果てにあるのは女の奔放さが招く男の自意識の崩壊。
それは一見不幸なようで、幸せなことだと思う。
何も言い切らずに終わるしかありえない。

ＳＭ描写の稚拙さが男の稚拙さと重なり痛々しい。

小川洋子にはめずらしくエロティックな作品。
相変わらず言葉のひとつひとつがキラキラ輝いています。
