「沈黙の春」については今さら多言を要しません。人類史上に残る本であることも確かだと思います。
しかし、現代の化学物質による環境汚染を「あれもこれも」取り上げて、すべてレイチェル・カーソン氏が指摘していた、とするのはどうも抵抗があります。だって、それはあくまで結果論ですもの。「レイチェル・カーソンを語り継ぐ」なんて、まるで「レイチェル・カーソン原理主義」です。
本人としてはそれほどのつもりもなかったけど、後になって「実はこうなることを見通していたんですよね？」と評価されてしまうことはよくあります。それって、こそばゆいもんじゃないんでしょうか。
