基本的にWindows2000 Server環境を中心に取り上げられているけれども、Windows Server 2003でも問題無く転用できる内容だと思います。
複雑な作業、反復作業に関する、GUIに依らない、スクリプトなどを利用した効率化が本書のテーマです。ちょっと深いTips集と言ったところでしょうか。

内容は、AD関連からIIS、セキュリティからパッチ適用、バックアップまで網羅された100のHACKSが紹介されています。それぞれの話題について、お馴染みのShellによるコマンド実行から、WMI、ADSIを活用したスクリプトとそのコード解説。あると便利、知っておくと便利なツールやサイトの紹介が中心です。

社内SEとしてWindows環境の運用に携わっている人には有用な本ではないかと思います。おそらく、GUIでは操作できるけれども、スクリプトで自動化するにはどうしたら良いのか？と、詰まったところで開いてみる時に始めて有用となる本なのだと思います。

読むと良いのではないかなと思うのはこんな人。

１．職種転換などで、他の分野から運用へ回されたエンジニア。
２．一通りの運用業務はこなせているけれども、何か物足りない人。
３．スクリプトは書けるけれども、どんなスクリプトが運用に必要なのかさっぱりな人。

かと言って、全く初めての人はダメ。例えば、新卒でこれから運用業務を担当しますよ、と言った人には向かない本でもあります。

HACK本シリーズのWinサーバ版です。
本の紹介では特に明記はしていませんが、2000と2003が対象になっています。

通常の解説本やマイクロソフトの技術情報だと、
「単一の機能について」の「設定方法」
しか書いていないため、実際にサーバを管理・運用する上での具体的な方法がわかりにくいところがあります（ひどいものだと、画面貼り付けと設定手順を載せているだけです）。

しかし本書では、実際の運用で必要なテクニックやツール、サイトについて説明されています。
また、「このように使いたいんだけど、どのように設定すればいいのか？」といった場合に、いわいる「逆引き」的に本書を参照することもできます。マイクロソフトの技術情報を見ても、断片的･分散された形でしか提供されていなかったものが、本書ではHACKの1項目だけで一発で理解することが出来たのもあります（例：HACKの10、95など）。

HACKの大半がスクリプトのため、初心者には向きません。もちろん、サーバを扱うと言う時点で、初心者は少ないのかもしれませんが。

ただし、XPのHACK本同様の欠点があります。
１）日本語訳の不備
またまた直訳です。読んでいて元の英語の文章が想像できて笑いました。
２）日本語環境での検証不足
画面貼り付けこそ日本語ですが、URLやスクリプトは英語のものばかり。スクリプトは米国サイトからはDLできますが、日本語サイトにはありません。日本語サイトでもいいので、更新情報を掲載してほしいです。

なので、日本語版の欠点を差し引いて星四つです。

初めてWindowsサーバーに触れる人には多少難しいかもしれない。
しかし、少しでも触れたことがある人、またWSHを少しでも覚えたい人には、
打って付けの一冊だと思います。
中に書いてあるWSHのコードは長いですが、オライリーのサイトからも落とせますので、
気軽に買ってみてはどうでしょうか？

特に新入社員で管理者の補佐をやってるような方、買いですよ！
