速く動作するSQLの書き方など裏技的なネタが少々と、レプリケーションに関する詳しい説明、ジャーナルファイルシステムとの関連など、確かに実践で役に立つ話題がいくつも説明されているので、MySQLを使う人は一度目を通すとよいと思います。

ただしSQLの実行、バッファの利用、インデックスなどに関する体系的な説明がないので、この本を読んでもMySQLを使いこなせるようになるわけではないです。そのあたりを期待して読むと期待外れと思うかも知れません。

洋書の翻訳だからでしょうが、値段の割りには中身が薄いかもしれません。
しかし、翻訳文はこなれていて読みやすいです。

チューニングに必要な各種の知識を説明してある本です。チューニングの手順やテクニック、チューニングの事例などは、ありません。
ＭｙＳＱＬの動作原理、特にエンジンの動き、選択指針については、詳しく書いてあります。ＳＱＬのチューニングにも力が入ってます。ＭｙＳＱＬのＳＱＬ解釈やオプティマイザの動き、ＳＱＬのコツなどです。あと、設定ファイルの設定内容、ハードウエアの選択、レプリケーションの話題などです。

ＭｙＳＱＬの仕組みがよくわかりました。ＭｙＳＱＬの知識は、ほとんどありませんが、楽しく読めました。

欲を言えば、メモリの使い方、ＣＰＵなどの話題もあれば・・・と思いました。

アプリケーションのパフォーマンス向上に悩んでいる私にちょうどいいぐらいでした。
Mysql(特にDB)の初心者に絶対に向かないと思いますが、従来より効率がよいSQL文を書きたい、管理しているMysqlサーバにもっといいパフォーマンスを出したいといった方にいいかもしれません。
