　本書は基本的にはC++のサブセットの解説であって長大な（または肥大しすぎた）C++の機能を網羅している訳ではない。しかしC++の要点はしっかり押さえていて200ページ強で、C++がすんなり入ってくる憎い本である。

　Java等の他のオブジェクト指向言語を理解していて、C++にも手を出してみたいという人は下手なベタベタの初心者本より、こっちの方がシンプルで読みやすいことは請け合いだし、オブジェクト指向言語が初めてでも、本書をOOP解説書などとあわせて読むとより理解が深まることは確実だ。

　あんまり技術系の長い本を読むのは得意ではないが、C++に興味があるという方には是非買って貰いたい。

「本書はC++を習得しようとしているCプログラマを対象にしている」とあるように、Cをある程度使える人を対象としているので、全くのプログラミング初心者は、買っても何のことやら…となってしまいます。

全体的に柔らかい文体なので、すいすいと読み進められます。あまりかちかちした文章を読むと眠気に襲われる…という方にお勧めします。

ですが、内容は、C++の内容をちゃんと押さえており、C++の入門書はこれ一冊で十分でしょう。
ところどころにあるコラムでは、少し進んだ内容が書かれており、ちょっと入門を脱したかなと勘違いでき、気分よくなれます。

この本は入門書とは言えない。あっさりと書かれているがやや濃い内容も書かれている。
今までC++に全く触れたことがない人には、お勧めできない。
以前C言語を使っていたとしても、クラスの概念は先に他の入門書を読んだ方が理解しやすいかもしれない。
この本はむしろ、C++を中途半端に理解している人や、
ブランクがあり、軽く復習したい人に是非読んで頂きたい。
この手の本でありがちな「おまじない」はなく、重要な知識が簡潔に書かれている。
例えば、この本はnewとmallocが違うことの理由を明確にしてあり、
（内部の詳細な実装は書かれていないが）
newハンドラのことや、例外がthrowされる状況まで簡潔に書かれている。
キャストや、参照渡し、メンバ初期化リストのこと、その時の一時オブジェクトの扱い、
それらのことが、この本を読むことでイメージ可能になってくるだろう。
おさえておきたい重要なポイントが書かれた良書。
