お話と現実がごちゃごちゃになって、じっくり読まないとおもしろみが分からないかもしれない。
メギーの置かれたおかしな立場で、お話の世界と現実の間を行き来して、お母さんに出会う。
登場人物も奇妙な人達が多いが、憎めない性格の人達もいる。
メギーはいろいろな人達との関係の中で、自分の生きる道を見つけようとしている。
魔法と不思議の世界。

「魔法の声」の続編です。と言うか、三部作の第二作と言った方が良いのかも知れません。

前作で、「言葉」「文字」の力の強大さを語ったフンケは、この第二作では、その限界を語って見せているようにも思えます。それは、「闇の心」の作者フェノグリオの「言葉」以上に、事態が進行してしまうからです。
「言葉」は、それ自体、社会を変えたり、個人を変える力を持っています。でも、書かれた「言葉」（或いは「文字」）は、勝手に一人歩きしてゆきます。作者の思い通りに働いてくれるとは限らない訳です。その限界を示すために、フェノグリオは、絶望の淵に立たされるのかも知れません。
本の大収集家であるエリノアも相変わらず、「闇の世界」には行けません。このあたりは、「本」の本質を大切にする人でなければならないと言うことかも知れません。

いずれにしても、フンケの本は読ませてくれます。８００ページ近い本ですが、一気に読めました。

「魔法の声」の続編です。本の中のものを「読み出す」ことができる魔法の声を持つ父モーと少女メギー。本の中に閉じ込められていた母レサを取り戻し、悪者カプリコーンを倒したメギーは、レサの語る「闇の世界」に魅せられていきます。そして、ホコリ指を本の世界に返したオルフェウスのことを知ったメギーは、自らも本の世界に飛び込むことを決意します。しかし、復讐に燃えるカプリコーンの母、モルトラとバスタが、メギーたちを追ってきます。そして、「闇の世界」自体も、作者フェノグリオの思いを超えて、どんどん変わりつつあり...

前作では、モーやメギーのもつ「魔法の声」自体が物語の進行を左右していましたが、今回は、「文字」が主役です。物語の中へ飛び込んでしまったフェノグリオは、自分の想いから離れてしまった物語をどうすることもできません。まさに、「言葉は生きている」のです。しかし、そこに、「魔法の声」を持つメギーが現れたことで、フェノグリオは再び物語をコントロールしようとするのですが...。命を持ってしまった物語が作者の意図を離れて進んでいく...小説のあとがきなどで時々目にする言葉ですが、この作品の中では、まさにそのとおりのことが進んでいきます。作者と作品の戦いはどちらに軍配が上がるのか！？後はご自分で読んでお確かめください。あとがきによると、三部作形式となるようです。まとめとなる三作目が楽しみです。
