内容は、もくじをみるとオーソドクスにみえますが、中身はかなり、いやまったく違います。日本のそれとは。

キーワードは「意思決定」。

米国で長年に渡り高い評価を得ている経済学の教科書の翻訳。

基本概念から、ミクロ、マクロ、国際経済学まで一通りカバーしており、すっかり昔の知識が抜け落ちてしまった僕にとっても、全体像の整理に非常に役立ちました。

また、経済用語が英語で併記されているので、用語の定義とともに効率的に頭に入ってきます。英語の経済紙を読みこなすための基礎知識という意味でも役にたつものです。

各章の末尾に概念の確認や、実際の社会における経済の実態について批判的に考察させるような例題があるのが印象的。知識の「詰め込み」よりも「批判的に考える」力を養おうという姿勢が窺えます。経済学には正解はないだけに、考えることの重要性は日本の教育でも、もっと強調されてもよいと思います。

昔「生産要素」といえば、土地・資本・労働力の３つ、と習いましたが、今は「企業家」も入っているのですね。時代の流れなのか、アメリカならではなのか分かりませんが、印象に残りました。また、アメリカの所得格差の現実にも改めて驚きを覚えました。

以前から経済学を勉強したいと思っていましたが、体系的に学べて初心者向けのものが･･･と思っていたところに、この本を見つけました。
経済学の考え方が体系に沿ってやさしく解説されています。
高校生向けだけあって、著者の立場などはあまり明確にされず、中立な立場から記述されているように思います。
ソフトカバーなのも○

経済学の本というもは今まで読んだ事が全くなかったのですが、アメリカの高校生向けの教科書ということで読んでみることにしました。経済学の初心者には、実はこれでも難しい。しかし、アメリカでは高校生に、経済学のこれほどの内容を教えているとは驚きです。日本では起業家を目指す人は非常に稀ですが、高校時代に教科書でこのような内容を教わっていたら、有名大学、高級官僚あるいは大企業というのが第一の道ではなく、企業家になって利益を出す会社を作ること、世の中を変えることを目指すのが一番であると思う学生が多数でてくることも、すこし理解できました。
