レスター・グリンスプーン、ジェームス・バカラー（著）久保儀明（訳）『マリファナ』（青土社）が医者の立場から厳正な目でマリファナの薬理を分析・検証した本であるのに対し本書は、医療はもちろん、繊維、紙、食料、飼料、エネルギー・バイオマス、木材代替材料、プラスティック等、様々な大麻の応用例を具体的に示し、さらに環境問題にも言及する。さらに大麻と人類の歴史、各地の文化・宗教と大麻の関係までをまとめてある。勿論、法律に関する問題にも触れている。

日本において大麻が取り締まりの対象となった理由は多くの研究者によって指摘されているように米国に倣っただけ、というもの。ではその米国においては…？本書には米国人研究者によって、その背景が語られている。こんな本を読んで悪法、大麻取締法の根元を考察するのもよいかもしれない。

加えて、本日本語版には付録として日本文化と大麻の関係を詳述した章が付け加えられている。図表・コラム多数。索引付き。引用文献リストも完璧で信頼性が高い。

一般の読者には勿論、これから本格的に大麻の研究に取り組む人の入門書としても便利である。

俺の住んでる街の図書館で借りれました、本の検索をしていたら[マリファナ・ブック]を発見!

しかし一般の貸出し棚にはなく、倉庫に安置されていました。
少し緊張しながら受付の人に「この本借りたいんですけど〜」って言ったら、裏の倉庫に行って取って来てくれました。

環境問題、医療薬としての使用、歴史、精神性、規制に関する問題、などさまざまな分野について詳しく記述されています。

とても勉強になる本です!お金があれば傍に置いてあげたい!
