福沢 諭吉
1835~1901。中津藩出身。東京学士院(現在の日本学士院)初代会長、慶応義塾創設者。19歳の時に蘭学を学び、アメリカ・ヨーロッパへの使節団に参加する。帰国後、欧米社会での経験をまとめた『西洋事情』、『学問のすすめ』を出版。明治維新前後において、新時代の自由や平等を説いた(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

と言った方が正しい気がする。学問のススメの概略が福沢諭吉の本人の
解説という形で作品の最後に記されている。

むしろ、この本のメインは、一下級市民の息子諭吉少年の成長物語である。日本を近代化へと導いていく教育家、思想家が生み出される過程を分かりやすく、シンプルな絵で描かれているので誰にでも読める漫画でしょう。

昔、学校の図書館で読んだ偉人漫画を簡潔にしたイメージです。
ページ数も多くないので普段本を読まない子供にも勧められるのが◎

　この文庫本を本屋で見、買わなかったら？
　福沢諭吉という人物、そして彼が書いたベストセラー『学問のすすめ』を　知らないでいたかもしれない。
　今の時代において　見失っているなにものかを短時間に知ることができる。
　まんがの威力はすごい。壱万円札から登場する福沢諭吉。面白い。
　明治維新、その後の時代を　引っ張っていった男、福沢諭吉のお話しが　とにかくわかる。
　神は時代に生きる人を選ぶ。選民としての福沢諭吉。
　彼の　主張も入門編として納得すれば　よくぞわかりやすく伝えてくれたと感謝。
　ここから、福沢諭吉とその時代、その後の時代をかんがえるチャンスを与えられたのだ。
　出版元　イースト・プレスの試みは成功するのだろうか。これも楽しみ。

原書の「学問のススメ」を読んでたもので、絵付き（漫画版）のこっちはどんなもんかと思い購入。独立自尊という項目にしぼってわかりやすく書いてありました。ついでに諭吉の略歴も知れてお得でした。「学問のススメ」を書いたスゴい人（後、一万円の人）だとは知っていましたが、具体的に何をしてきた人かは全然知りませんでしたので。「学問のススメ」にいたる諭吉の生きていく知恵や反骨精神を知れた一冊でした。生きることは学びつづけること。日々向上心を持って生きなきゃなと思いました。それにしても幕末の動乱の中、諭吉は随分とPOPに一生懸命生きていたんだなぁと感心しました。
