書店で手に取り、購入しようと価格を見て躊躇しましたが、購入して良かったと思います。
著者の1975ー1995に掛けていくつかの雑誌に掲載されたSFに関する書評が載っています。
私は書評を読むというよりも、SFにまつわるエッセイとして楽しませてもらいました。私はSFはそれほど読み込んでいないのですが、東京創元社はある時期（昔なつかしの）ゲームブックがはやっていたころ、編集者が兼務だったためSFの発行点数が減ったといった話は面白く読ませてもらいました。
書評としてみたときは、著者名と署名の索引もついていますし、出版年表や点数付けも重宝する人がいるでしょう。
ただ私としては、海外の作品の場合、著者と作品の英語表記もあるともっと良かったと思います・

SF小説の第一人者である著者が、20年間分のSF小説時評をまとめた本だ。
何せ、75年から95年というスパンの書評だから、文章を通して、その当時の雰囲気が見えるのも魅力。
また、筒井康隆『文学部只野教授』や蓮實重彦『小説から遠く離れて』などのへの言及のように、SFに限定されない場外乱闘もあり。
（なお、著者の場外乱闘をもっと楽しむには、『文学賞メッタ斬り！』と『読むのが怖い』の二冊がいいと思う）
SFファンならもちろん楽しめようが、それ以上に、どこから手をつけていいのかわからないSF小説初心者にこそ読んで欲しいと思う。
巻末のINDEXや翻訳SF出版年表も極めて親切。

詰め込み過ぎでひとつひとつ内容が浅い。
ただの好き嫌いで点数をつけているのか、基準が不明。
