70本弱のDVDをワイルド7ならぬ精鋭ライター7人が紹介した本。

メジャーな作品で「トリプルX」「タワーリング・インフェルノ」、後は「レポマン」「情無用のジャンゴ」「サイレント・ランニング」「トレマーズ」「シビルの部屋」「ファンタスティック・プラネット」その他諸々と、どういう基準でセレクトしたのかは不明ですが、メジャーとマイナーの境界線上にある微妙なタイトルが延々と並んでいます。1作品の文章が3ページと程よい長さで、ほとんど好き勝手に書いているらしく、マニアが熱く語っているような調子なのがいいですね。
面白いのが、DVDマニアには色々な意味で名高い日本のメーカーにインタビューしていて、日本国内で販売する時の苦労談や、海外のDVDに付いていた特典映像が何故日本版では付ち?ないのか、明確に答えている点です。知らなければ良かったかも？

太田出版なんて意外なところから出ているのですが、ライター陣は映画秘宝常連勢が多数を占める・・・・ということから分かるように、読み手を選びますが、そういうのが好きな人にはたまらない内容です。紹介されている作品はその筋のマニアなら基本中の基本項目ばかりなんですが、文章が長くきっちりと書かれているので、知っていても楽しめます。図書館とかに置いてあると、無難な装丁から普通のありがちなDVDタイロル紹介本かとスルーしてしまいそうですが、その筋のマニア向けの本ですから、見逃さないようにしましょう。
