まず、功から。(メンタル系ドラッグについて)
様々な要因により、精神的、社会的に追いつめられた人、ひょっとしたら病気かもしれず治療が必要な人などは、精神的問題を軽減あるいは除去してくれる薬があることが分かり、受診の動機付けとなりうる点。
次に罪。
全体に「病気」の「治療薬」というより、誰もが日常感じる程度の苦痛を容易に取り除くサプリの紹介本的スタンスで書かれているため、向精神薬をレクリェーション・ドラッグ的に使用しようとする困った人々を生む一因を作った書の感がある点。
とくにアップ系の薬では、乱用や密売事件、薬に対する偏見を助長させ、かえって行政の規制強化等を招き、患者の治療の選択肢や機会を大きく奪う切っ掛けに繋がった気がする。
興味本位のこうした書き方は、社会や患者にとってなんらメリットがなく、むしろ有害図書といえる。
また、すでに薬の情報はだいぶ古くなり、データや薬理情報に誤りが多く、その意味でも危険な書といえる。

私は、かなり長いこと神経科（精神科）心療内科に通っていますが、薬を処方されて説明を受けても、飲んで見なければ効果は分からないし、薬の辞典にもどんな薬か・・としか掲載してない。
この本で全ての精神薬を把握出来るとは限らないけれど、ある程度の種類を飲んだことのある患者には、比較対照として参考になるはずだ。

坑鬱薬、精神安定剤、睡眠導入剤などの種類の副作用、メリット､デメリットが割と詳しく書いてあり、薬一つ一つの特徴が分かる。

その他､日記やなんかに必要性はないし、人それぞれ効果は違うけれど参考にはなります。
ただ、出版がかなり前なので、新薬の情報が無いのが残念。

この本には、いい面と悪い面がある。
薬の種類や用法などに詳しくなるのはいいこと。
一方で、違法ではないがやったはいけない薬の摂取方法や、
大量に服用すると自殺にも使える使用法など…。
買う人の”自己責任”で読んでもらうしかないが…。
