練習課題と使う道具を指示してくれている
ので通信教育みたいな感じで学習できる
点がいいと思いました。

この本を買おうと思っている人は

・ 20×25 厚さ2mmの透明なアクリル板
・ 20×25 黒い厚紙×2
・ 油性＆水性のマーカー
・ クリップ×2
・ グラファイトのスティック 4B
・ 鉛筆 2B
・ マスキングテープ
・ 鉛筆削り(手のひらサイズの携帯用推奨)
・ 消しゴム
・ 画用紙(課題毎に必要)
・ 13×18くらいの小さな鏡
・ 画板

を用意しましょう。特にアクリル板と黒い
厚紙は必須で、これなしで教えることは
考えられないそうです。全部揃えるのに
画材店、ホームセンター、100円ショップ
を回り4000円くらいかかりました。

本著は著者がワークショップで実際に教
えている内容に基づいた実践書です。
道具を買い揃えるのがもったいないと感
じたり、読んだだけで絵が上達すること
を期待している人はこの本で学ぶのは諦
めてください。

本書に書いてある指示通りに進めていくと、自分の絵が上達していくのが分かります。
最低限必要な用意があるのですが、基本的に鉛筆と消しゴムだけでも大丈夫でした。
そうして読み終えてみて、直線すら満足に描けなかった自分がまさかここまで描けるようになるとは思いませんでした。
おまけに世界観が変わりました。左脳人間だったようです。はい。

頭の中でイメージしたものやマンガなどについては、
本書に書かれていることを代用するのが難しいかもしれません。
それすらも上手くなるためには地道な努力が必要なんだと本書が教えてくれている気がします。

知り合いから「どうすれば絵がうまくなるか」と聞かれ、わたしはこの本を思いだした。

１０年近く前、この本に出会ったときは凄まじい衝撃を受けた。それまであまりにも漠然としていた「絵の描き方」というものが、この本によって恐ろしいほど具体的なものとなったからだ。もちろん、それは絵を専門的に勉強した人なら既知のことだったかもしれないが、わたしのような当時まったく普通の人間、ど素人に正しい道を指し示したという意味が大きい。

今でもこの本はバイブルである。
