美しさを感じる「椅子」とはどんなものだろう？と手にとられる方がいらっしゃったらぜひ購入していただきたい一冊です。国内での椅子研究者として知られる島崎信教授が特に力を入れられているデンマーク製の椅子。その中でもミッドセンチュリーの巨匠として名高い四人を取り上げその歴史や作品をコンパクトに文庫に収めたのは見事です。マニアの方もそうでない方もぜひぜひ。

北海道東海大学の織田憲嗣氏と双璧をなす椅子研究家である著者による北欧椅子デザイ
ナーの紹介本。ちなみに織田氏は著者を "椅子の世界に導いてくれた師" と敬っている。
何より嬉しいのが文庫本という手軽な媒体でミッドセンチュリーを代表する椅子デザイナーを
紹介してくれているところですね。
取り上げているデザイナーは "ザ・チェア (Round Chair #501)"、"Ｙチェア (ウィッシュ
ボーン・チェア)" などで有名な「ハンス・Ｊ・ウェーグナー」、"セブン・チェア"、"エッグ・チェア"
など名作を挙げればきりがない「アルネ・ヤコブセン」、ウェーグナーの盟友「モーエンセン」、
斬新なデザインの「フィン・ユール」の４人。
いずれも単に作品を並べただけではなく、その生涯や所属した企業をはじめとした背景に
まで掘り下げているところが素晴らしいと思います。
また、冒頭に触れた織田憲嗣氏がフィン・ユールとの交遊録を寄稿しているのも見ものです。

ハンス・ウェグナー、アルネ・ヤコブセン、ボーエ・モーエンセン、フィン・ユール。四人はデンマーク出身のデザイナー。フィン・ユールの椅子はアームが美しい。僕も心からそう思います。そして、後ろ姿が美しいバックシャン。その面白い表現が印象に残りました。自分もフィン・ユールの椅子の後姿が大好きです。フィン・ユールの椅子は日本のメーカーが復刻を作っているようですね。すごくうれしいです。

ウェグナーやヤコブセンは割と知ってる人が多いと思いますが、モーエンセンやフィン・ユールは割とご存知ない方も多いと思います。ただ、エピソードなんかを知るととても面白いと思います。

日産のＣＭにフィン・ユールの椅子がでてこないかなぁ。もっとメジャーな存在になってほしい！
