TOEICの文法対策用にこの本買ったけど古すぎて使えませんね。初版が９５年だから最近の傾向が載ってないのは仕方ないと思うけど。やっぱりTOEICの本はできるだけ初版が新しい本を買うべきですね。

時代遅れの感はいなめない。TOEICで既に使われなくなった文法を説明したり、新たに加わった文法が紹介されていない。記載されている文法問題もTOEICには関係ないものが多い。問題量も多くて挫折する人が多いのがよくわかる。極めつけはレイアウトの悪さ。この本は問題の横に解答と解説がある見開きの仕様。この仕様だと悩んだ人に解説を理解して覚えるというプロセスを踏めない。通常の本を使う場合手持ちの文法知識を用いて問題を解いていく。そしてわからなければ解説をみる。これの繰り返しで力がついていく。しかしながらこの本の仕様だ。答えを見ながら問題を解いているようなもん。悩んだ末に解説を読むという大事なことが全くできない。一回読んだことを完璧に覚えられる天才にしか使えないレイアウトである。私を含め多くの凡人にはこの本でスコアアップを望むのは酷である。

名著「総攻撃」の続編。前著であまり触れられていなかった仮定法や関係代名詞、倒置などが主体ですが、やっぱり鋭い内容がきちんと整理されていてとても役に立つのは同じ。この２冊でＴＯＥＩＣのパート５・６のパターンは（当然ながらボキャブ問題以外は）カバーされていると言っていいと思います。

本書は前著と同様ＴＯＥＩＣ形式の「選択式」だけでなく、「書き取り」（懐かしい響きですが）問題が多いのですが、これは面倒がらず、机にむかい、直接書き込んだり解説だけ流し読みするのでなく、ちゃんと別にノートを用意してやっていきましょう。けっこう実力があるひとも本書で再確認できることは多いはず、それくらい高いレベルまで網羅しながらかつ読みやすい理想的な参考書です。
