著者略歴 (「BOOK著者紹介情報」より)

植地 毅
1972年生まれ。東京都出身。映画や音楽、漫画を独自の視点でリンクさせ、その体系の解説や批評を書き飛ばすのが日課のフリーライター。95年に『GON!』(ミリオン出版)と『スーパー写真塾』(コアマガジン)で原稿デビューし、『マンガ地獄変』シリーズ(水声社)、『悶絶プロレス秘法館』シリーズ(シンコー・ミュージック)など多数のムック本を手がける。03年から2年間、北米のゲーム会社ロックスター・ゲームスに日本駐在社員として入社し、ライター業を一時休業して『グランド・セフト・オート』シリーズの日本国内における販売展開に参加。06年、ロックスター・ゲームスを退社して海外ゲーム専門のライターとして数々のペンネームで『ゲームラボ』、『週刊ファミ通』、『月刊ファミ通WAVE DVD』ほか、各誌で執筆活動を展開中(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

僕自身、レンタルより中古ビデオで買っちゃう方なので
香港映画・ホラー映画系はけっこうしょうもないものまで持ってたりしますが
そんなものはこの本の中に出てくるほんの一部でしかなかったです

DVDも一段落してブルーレイへ移行するかしないかという昨今ですが
世の中には権利問題や採算、差別表現、その他諸所の理由で
思ったより膨大な量の再生産されないソフトがまだまだあります
そして
その中にはやはり世の中から消滅させるにはあまりにもおしいモノがたくさんあるのです

この本は
捨てられ、廃棄される前にそんなビデオたちを助けたい
そんな愛に溢れた本です

是非みなさんもこの本を読んで「絶滅危惧ビデオ」保存活動への一歩を踏み出しましょう

80年代後半から90年代にかけて、ほぼバブル期と同じ頃がレンタルビデオおよび
VHSの全盛期かと思いますが、その頃発売された有象無象のあやしくおかしい「名
作」群を紹介した本です。
紹介された作品のうち、パッケージやタイトルだけは見たことがあるというのが
いっぱいありましたね。初期のレンタルビデオ屋さんって今と違って結構幅広くソ
フトを置いてましたからね。読んでて、ちょっと過去の記憶が呼び起こされ懐かし
いキモチにもなりました。

当然のことながら何これ？っていう作品も多数ありますが、一方では、えー、これ
消えちゃうの？と思わず言ってしまいたくなる作品も結構あったりします。発売禁
止になったり回収されたりしたやつとか貴重なレア作品とか・・・
いまやDVDに取って代わられ、かつ過去に発売されたビデオソフトはすべてがDVD化
されるわけでもなく、ゴミとして消えていってしまう作品群を愛情を持って記録
し、我々の記憶に残るようにしてくれております。また、入手困難なビデオの探し
方なんかもアドバイスしてくれてます。

そういえば、昔のサイレント期に作られた数多くの映画は、そもそも遺すという発
想が存在してなかったのでかなりのものが散逸・消失してしまったけど、VHSも同
じ道をたどるのですね・・・

再リリースできないものほど、その作品の裏で展開されたドラマに興味深いものが多いようである。

本書を読みながら取り上げられてる作品を実際に見ることができれば言うことなしだが、残念ながらその術はない。著者のような人たちが地道にサルベージ作業をし、これらの作品を後世に残そうとしているのがせめてもの救いである。

国会図書館はエロ本も含めて本という本は全て収集しているようであるが、映像作品も収集すべきだと本書を読んだ後に強く思った次第である。
