シドニィ・シェルダンの新刊が出るとどうも脊髄反射的に読んでしまうが、明らかにかつての「ゲームの達人」「真夜中は別の顔」などの頃と比べて質が落ちており、このような劣等品の大量生産に走っているのは寂しい事態である。この小説は、異常気象を発生させることができる技術開発を巡って、世界中で科学者たちの不審死が発生し、そのすべてにある研究所が関わっていることが明らかとなり、その謎を美女二人が解き明かしていくというストーリー。展開が早いのはいつものシドニィ・シェルダンのとおりなのだが、ディテールが犠牲にされすぎてしまっており、全体として粗い作品になってしまっている。大きな期待を持って読むと損をするが、暇つぶし程度にはよいかもしれない。

シンクタンクKIGの科学者たちが次々と死んでいく。事故なのか、自殺なのか、自殺に見せかけた殺人なのか...そして、彼らの家族へと魔の手が伸び...夫を亡くしたケリーとダイアンも命を狙われるようになる。それは、KIGのオーナー、タナーの仕業だった。ケリーとダイアンは夫の死の真相を解き明かし、逃げ切ることができるのか？

展開も速く、読みやすい本でした。ただ、「それだけ」です。下巻になれば、もうちょっと面白くなるかと期待していたのですが、どうやら外れだったようです。「異常気象売ります」のタイトルのせいでかなり筋書きがよめるところもいけないのでしょう。久しぶりにシドニィ・シェルダン読んだのに...残念です。時間がかからないので、ちょっと本でも読もうかな、ぐらいの人にはよいかも。
