本書は物語的に話しが進んでゆくので知らず知らずのうちに読み終わってしまった。著者の人柄がにじみ出ていて面白かった。それでいて前立腺がんについて、その歴史から診断、治療までかなりの知識を得ることが出来た。また、有名人に多いことを不思議に思っていたが、有名人は他の病気にならず長命を保ったことも一因であることに納得した。
　前立腺がんは早期発見・早期治療が大切なこと、他のがんに比べて特徴があることが分かった。診断法にはPSA検査、超音波、画像診断などがあり、治療法には手術、放射線療法、ホルモン療法が主であることを知ることが出来た。
患者もいろいろな人がいるので、治療法の選択に当たっては極めて多くの選択肢があることが理解できた。
　天皇陛下の罹患以来前立腺がんへの関心が高まってきているが、まだまだ市民レベルでの理解は低い。本書は少し古いが分かりやすい
