自らの子役時代、石原裕次郎との競演・信頼(友情)関係、好きになれない仕事だった声優の最初の頃、そしてシャアとの出会い…。
オモシロくて、読み始めたら止まりません。
また、機動戦士ガンダムが作られていた頃の舞台裏が、真面目な池田さんの視線から、こと細かに書かれています。

「去り逝く仲間たちへ」ということで、アルテイシア(井上さん)、ブライト(鈴置さん)たちへのメッセージを書かれているところにも、池田さんの人間味を感じます。
シャアが好きな人はもちろん、ガンダムが好きな人なら、読むべし…!
(賛否の分かれた劇場版Zの最後についても、池田さんの視点で素晴らしいまとめをしています)

シャア役の池田さんの自伝みたいな本ですが、
思い出話が結構あって、へぇ〜っと
感心したりすることが多く一気に読めます。
実は声優では、シャアとブライトが親友だったり。
初めて知ることが多く、ガンダムを懐かしく思っている人にはピッタリですよ。
ブライトとセイラがもうこの世にいないなんてつらいですが・・・。

「天才子役」としてデビューし、そして数々の名セリフを残した「シャア・アズナブル」という究極の当たり役を得る反面、常にそのイメージを背負わされた池田さんですが３０年以上も愛され続けるキャラを演じられたのは役者冥利に尽きると思います。シャアとの出会いやアムロ（古谷徹さん）、ブライト（鈴置洋孝さん）、セイラ（井上遥さん）といった声優さんとのエピソード等はリアルタイムで観ていた世代としては感動です。読み終わったら、またファースト・ガンダムが観たくなりました！
