ガイナックス取締役統括本部長である武田氏の少年時代から現在に至るまでの半生が、淡々とした筆致で語られている。脱税事件にもちゃんと触れるなど内容はフェアと言っていいのだろう。
巻頭に年表、巻末に人名事典や用語事典、山賀、赤井、庵野３氏の会談のほか、昨年行われた第４０回日本ＳＦ大会のリポートもあり、かえってそちらの方が面白かったりする。
本文の方は、やや行間が空き過ぎで、見出しの立て方に工夫がないこともあって、単調で間延びした感を受ける。人名や用語の解説は脚注にする手もあったのではないか。

古手のガイナックスファンや３０~４０代のＳＦ好きは（私自身そうだが）面白く読めると思う。ただ、サブタイトルの「エヴァンゲリオンを創った男たち」に惹かれて手に取った人は、肩透かしをくらった気分になるかもしれない。

　今まで断片的にしか語られてこなかったゼネラルプロダクツ＆ガイナックスの社史である。中心メンバーも含めて何度も離合集散し、傾きかけては建て直し、なんだかんだで16年が過ぎた。

　巻末の座談会でも言われているが、岡田氏とペアでメディアには登場しながらも、クリエイターではないがために、今ひとつ何の仕事をしている人だかわからなかった武田氏が自分の仕事を語る。
　噂では語られていた「給料が止まった会社」の件はあまりにも痛々しい。好きな仕事で金を稼ぐことは生半可な苦労ではない。

　ノミネートされてたので、買ってみました。
　ガイナックスって名前は聞いたことあったけど、特に興味もなかったのですが、淡々とした語り口とは裏腹に、なんかこれすごいこと書いてない？というようなことばかりで、一気に読んでしまいました。

　自身の半生を語るだけでこれだけドラマチックなら人生は楽しいんじゃないだろうかと、うらやましくもあり…、いや、完全にうらやましいです。
　いいなぁ、こんな人生。
　そんな本でした。
