　１９９６年３月の英国の保健大臣ステファン・ドレルのＢＳＥの危険性の認定（とそれに伴うＢＳＥパニック）の前から一ジャーナリストとして取材を開始していた著者の先見の明には敬服させられる。
　取材と文章もさることながら一番訴えかけてくるのは冒頭の健康なときのピーターの写真と感染後のピーターの写真である。

　本書は、ＢＳＥ事件の背景とその被害の深刻さに鋭く切り込んでおり、評価できる１冊であるといえる。
