第13巻を失望とともに見送って以来数ヶ月、この巻が出るのを若干の危惧とともに心待ちにしていた。私の不安が杞憂に終わったことを、私は喜んでいる。

主としてこの巻では、日米通商条約を巡る幕府・朝廷の煩悶を描き、井伊直弼の権力掌握を描く。最近の巻で目立っていた大味な絵が減り、記述が周到になって、この大河作品の本来の姿をすっかり取り戻していると思う。すばらしい。

みなもと太郎氏のライフワークともいえる作品。
　ギャグマンガの形態を取りながら、日本の歴史を深く掘り下げる。　ついに幕府崩壊の最終局面の時代に突入した。　
　今回の巻に関しては、前半は歴史エピソードを追いかける事に重点が置かれているが、後半になると人間ドラマとしての盛り上がりが用意されており、次巻への期待を否応なく沸かせる。ウマイ！

　単に歴史的事件を羅列するのではなく、その事件が起こった原因と、それが時代の変化に及ぼした影響と意味を、分かり易く伝えてくれる。
　主役級に取り扱われる実在の人物は、皆、激動の時代へ向かう日本の将来を憂いて、全力で生き抜いている。　幕末の時代、壮絶に生き抜いたのは、坂本竜馬や篤姫だけではない。　市民の中にも幕府の官僚の中にも、自分の人生をかけて仕事を全うした人物が何人も居ることを、この本は教えてくれる。
　作者は、全ての人物に愛情を注ぎ、描いているのが分かる。　尚且つ、複雑なエピソードの絡まりを破綻なくストーリーに組み上げる事に成功している。　それは途轍もなく大変な事だと想像するのだが、妥協することなく、やり遂げ続ける作者の情熱に、感服する。　有名無名に関わらず、日本の歴史を作ってきた先人を描く為には、作者も全力で取り組まなければならない、という思いが伝わって来る。
　このような情熱のこもった作品を評価するのはおこがましい。　残念ながら知名度は高いといえない。　それが残念である。

　ちょっとリキんだ文章になってしまいましたが、分かりやすいギャグマンガですので、騙されたと思って読んでみてください。

蛇足１
　今回描かれる、崩壊していく幕府の様子は、どうにも、混乱しまくっている”アノ政党”とダブって見えてしまいます。

　NHK担当者殿。　全巻読めば、軽く「大河ドラマ」20本、「その時、歴史は動いた」３年分くらいのネタはありまっせ。　あっ、もう読んでますか。　当然。

史上、あまり取り上げられない、あるいは、すっ飛ばされる日米通商条約の裏話がテーマの回。
堀田正睦や井伊直弼、川路聖謨などの幕府方はもちろん、京都の公家たち、西郷ら勤皇の志士たち、ハリスなどの外国人たちなどなど、多角的に（あるいはしつこいほどの情熱で）描かれていきます。
今回も楽しみました。
この漫画、終わらなくてもいい、でしょ？
