7巻以降7月と年末に新刊を出していた「幕末編」。
多分まだ読んだことのない一般読者がお盆や正月休みにまとめて読んでもらえる配慮だと思うのですが
単行本は8章で一冊。一章が一月分として残り4章分はどうしてるか、と思う方もいると思います。
実は、「乱」連載の中に「トムプラス」という雑誌で連載してた分を差しこんでるのです。
(水増しだ、というより休刊になった話の続きもフォローしたいのだと思いますが)
それも今回で尽きてしまいました。 来年か再来年には単行本にする原稿がなくなりそうなのです。

…で、ここからはレビューではなくお願いなのですが、
そのあいた月に「風雲児たち外伝」を単行本化してもらえないでしょうか?
(実はこれが言いたかった。)
幕末とは限らないですが単行本一冊分はあるはず。
よろしくお願いします。

今年の大河「篤姫」。幕末時代劇にしては、遅々として進まない。
友人がいう「イライラする。やっと井伊直弼が襲撃されたか」と。
それ見たことか！と僕は思う。
何しろ、こちとら、中学の時から「風雲児たち」を読み続けているっての。
それに比べたら、篤姫の展開でさえ、早い、速い。

という間に、「風雲児たち」は篤姫にさえも抜かれ、みなもと先生は相も変らぬマイペースで、空前絶後のこの漫画を描き続ける。

先生、せめて戊辰戦争終結までは長生きしてください。
そうでなければ、こちとら、死んでも死にきれません。
（もし長生きしたら、現代史までお願いします）

私が至るところで推してきたこの大河歴史ドラマに、今回初めて四つ星をつける。何故か。それは、このところずっと釈然としなかった大味な作品の印象が、大コマの多用にあることにようやく気づいたからであり、また、情報としての質の劣化まで来し始めているように思えたからである。

この巻はハリスの江戸入府と安政の御前試合とが主題である。私が不審に思ったのは、龍馬と桂小五郎とが実際に手合わせをしたという証拠など残っていないと記憶しているのに、そのあたりが事実として注釈もなく描かれていたからであった（それとも私の記憶違いか？）。以前のみなもと太郎なら、そのあたりの講釈を小さく記したはずである。それがないというのは、この作品が単なる娯楽作品になりかけていることを意味するのではないか。事実史のフィクションを混じえた再解釈がこの作品の真骨頂であったことを考えると、この劣化は深刻であろう。ほかのエピソードの真偽まで疑わざるを得なくなる。潮出版から出ていた古い時代の「風雲児たち」、そこにあった深い考証、綿密な描写が懐かしい。
