Movable Type 3.1 の入門書です。MT は定評あるウェブログツールですが、サーバを用意し自分で設置する必要があるため、第一歩を踏み出すための敷居は低くありません。しかし少々のウェブサイト運営経験があれば心配無用です。本書は MT の設置に必要なサーバの知識、CGI 設置の初歩をシンプルに、わかりやすく解説します。

標準的なユーザマニュアルというコンセプトに忠実な本書は、基本的な機能をひとつひとつていねいに紹介していきます。マニュアルらしい律儀さ、図解の的確さと同時に、一気読みの難しさも備えています。性格にもよりますが、基本的には、無事にウェブログを開設できたら残りのページは必要になってから読めばよいでしょう。

本書は入門書です。カスタマイズの記事などもあるのですが、既に MT を導入してウェブログを運営されている方が本書を購入しても、得るところは少ないでしょう。MT 付属のヘルプを参照して初歩的なトラブルを解決するスキルがある方には、初級解説書「即実践!ブログ徹底カスタマイズ術」や中級解説書「Movable Typeスタイル&コンテンツデザインガイド」をお勧めします。

逆にネット初心者が MT を設置するのは、本書を買っても簡単ではありません。初めてのウェブログなら、レンタルブログサービスを勧めます。「はじめよう! みんなのブログ」などウェブログの入門書をご検討ください。

blog、つまりweblogを開設できるシステムとして、最も有名なMovableTypeの解説書です。新バージョン(MovableType3.0以降)のMovableTypeの導入方法や解説がすっきり書かれています。初めて導入する方にはわかりやすい解説書です。MovableTypeを熟知する著名な２人の解説書なので信頼がおけます。「ダイナミック・パブリッシング」など最新の機能についても記載されています。初版「Movable Typeで今すぐできるウェブログ入門 」の改訂版ですが、共著となり、タイトルが変わっています。既に、MovableTypeでblogを始めているかたには、容易に読みこなせる初心者にも配慮したMovable Type標準ハンドブックと言えるでしょう。

日本におけるblogのパイオニア的存在の平田氏の書。「Movable Typeで今すぐできるウェブログ入門」の改訂版ですが、最新の日本語版に合わせかなり修正、加筆されています。これを読めば、Movable Typeのサーバーへのインストール方法からカスタマイズまで、基本的なことが良く解ります。これからMovable Typeでblogを本格的にはじめようとする人から、導入したが今一つ使いこなせていない人には打って付けの書籍です。私もblogを始めたばかりですが、バイブル的存在でとても役に立っています。
