今回の『1705』は前回判明した、ヒューイとルネ部長の関係をうけてかヒューイの少年時代の話です。1930年代とは違うヒューイに注目です!ルネさんは相変わらずですが髪型とかダサイ・・・。
錬金術師達の中でも特に異色の位置付けであるヒューイとエルマーの出会いが話の中心ですが、他にも田九郎とザンクローやあの人物(全然わからんかった!)とも邂逅しており、次回作への期待も高まります。個人的には田九郎たちの活躍が嬉しかったです。
内容はミステリーっぽい感じで最後の以外な事実にはびっくりしました。また、犯人が判明する場面は中々臨場感があってよかったと思います。
蛇足ですが今回の話には女性の素晴らしさや逆に怖さも描かれており、成田さんの女性観も垣間見えた感じがします。
あと登場人物が多くなってきたのでファンブック的な本が出てくれると嬉しいです。

「バッカーノ！」の外伝です。

成田良悟の偉いところは、
史誌をきちんと当たって、
空気感まで書き著してることです。

本巻によると、不老不死になった人間は、
ヒューイたちが最初ではなかったのですね。
このあと十字軍な14世紀まで遡るのかしら？

1930年代の超絶アクションはないものの、
壊れた性格はバンバカ出てきて楽しめます。

1706、1707と期待してますよ！
……まさか西暦全部、2000冊以上書くつもり!?

　今回の「1705」は、時代は中世、メインは15歳のヒューイとエルマーという異色のコンビ。
　てなわけで「2001」に続くバッカーノ外伝と言えるので、ファン向けと言えばファン向けな一冊。

　しかしそこはバッカーノ、読みやすさは抜群。
　少年時代のヒューイとエルマーへの興味や、脇を固める新キャラ達もバッカーノらしい個性的なキャラばかり（特にボロニアル伯爵）なので、快適に読めます。
物語としては地味ながら、成田良悟お得意の、意表をつく展開もきちんとあるのもさすが。
　いつものバッカーノ的な無茶なノリのアクション分は不足しているのが、ちと不満と言えば不満かも。
　あとは、錬金術師仲間が何人かちらりと登場しているので、ニヤリと出来るのも外伝らしい楽しみかと。
もっとも「こいつって誰だっけ？」と首を傾げる事の方が多いのですが(苦笑)。
